Join Avitura for Wings in Passage: Fall Migration Birding, a guided outing focused on finding and observing migrating birds as they move through Waterloo Region during the fall season. As warblers, vireos, flycatchers, thrushes, sparrows, raptors, waterfowl, and other species pass through woodlots, wetlands, fields, shorelines, and urban green spaces, each outing offers a chance to experience the energy and unpredictability of migration.
This outing will focus on locating active bird movement, reading habitat, understanding migration timing, and improving field identification through behaviour, structure, calls, plumage, and seasonality. Participants will learn how to scan different habitats, recognize mixed-species flocks, identify common and uncommon migrants, and appreciate how Waterloo Region fits into the broader movement of birds across the landscape.
