Autumn on the Flyway: Fall Migration at FWR Dickson

Experience the changing season with Avitura during a guided fall migration walk at FWR Dickson. As birds begin their journeys south, the area provides opportunities to observe a diverse mixture of songbirds gathering, feeding, and resting before continuing along their migration routes.

Participants will learn how to identify fall migrants by sight and sound while exploring the influence of habitat, weather, and seasonal timing on bird movements. Particular attention will be given to the subtler plumages of autumn warblers, as well as the identification of vireos, thrushes, flycatchers, sparrows, and other species encountered along the way.

The walk will move at a relaxed pace, allowing time to study identification features, listen for calls, and observe the behaviours birds use to refuel during migration. This outing is suitable for both newer birders and experienced observers looking to strengthen their fall identification skills.

Species and numbers will vary with migration conditions, but every walk offers an opportunity to experience one of the most dynamic periods of the birding year.
