Experience the spectacle of fall migration at Hawk Cliff, one of Ontario’s best-known locations for watching raptors move along the Lake Erie shoreline. This outing offers an opportunity to observe hawks, falcons, eagles, vultures, and other migrants while learning how weather, wind direction, geography, and seasonal timing influence their movements.
Participants will be introduced to raptor identification using shape, flight style, behaviour, and plumage. Depending on the date and conditions, potential highlights may include Sharp-shinned and Cooper’s Hawks, Broad-winged and Red-tailed Hawks, American Kestrels, Merlins, Peregrine Falcons, Northern Harriers, Bald Eagles, and occasionally Golden Eagles.
This experience is suitable for both newer birders and experienced observers looking to strengthen their identification skills. Migration numbers and species vary with the weather, but every outing provides an opportunity to better understand raptor ecology and the remarkable journeys these birds undertake each fall.
