Join Avitura for Golden Horizons: Hawk Cliff Raptor Migration, a guided outing focused on the spectacle of fall raptor migration at Hawk Cliff. As conditions align, birds of prey use the shoreline and surrounding landscape to move south, creating opportunities to observe species such as Turkey Vulture, Bald Eagle, Northern Harrier, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Cooper’s Hawk, Red-tailed Hawk, Rough-legged Hawk, American Kestrel, Merlin, Peregrine Falcon, and, with some luck, Golden Eagle.
This outing will focus on how to identify migrant raptors by shape, flight style, behaviour, size, and structure rather than relying only on colour or field marks. Participants will learn how weather, wind direction, thermals, and geography influence raptor movement, while gaining a deeper appreciation for one of Ontario’s most exciting migration events. While Golden Eagle will be a featured target, this experience is about the full movement of autumn raptors and the anticipation of what may appear overhead.
Minimum of 5 participants.
